I was in the 4th grade when I had to present my first oral book report.
Even though I was an avid reader, I was all stressed out about the idea of standing in front of the class and talking about the story that I read. When I shared my fears with my teacher, Miss Werner (who was my favorite teacher, ever :)), here's what she said. "It's not that hard, Carol. Just read the story and then stand up and say it in your own words."
What a powerful (and unforgettable) concept...having the freedom to interpret what you have seen or read...putting your spin on it...focusing on what you like...and embracing what's meaningful to you.
Giving artists the opportunity to create in their own words is one of the main reasons why I host and teach workshops.
Over the years, I've attended quite a few workshops...and I've heard about the workshops you've attended as well. In some, you are told that you have to make it exactly like the sample and in others, there isn't even a sample...you just bring your stuff and play!
If you've not attended a creatologie Heirloom workshop, here's what you can expect. There is a completed sample which you can use as a template...and you are given all of the supplies needed and the instructions to make your project like the sample. But, if you want to create it in your own words and make the project uniquely yours, nobody is going to stand in your way...in fact, we will be cheering you on for sure.
The freedom to create your very own unique book is in your hands!
On October 20th, I'll be teaching the Fall Heirloom Event Workshop...this makes number 8! It'll be a full day (8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) of creating, socializing, shopping and eating...and not necessarily in that order :).
The theme for the project is called "Treasured Memories" and the project is actually a latched black metal case with a book built inside. The case (which is about 10 1/2" square) has a handle for carrying and can stand on end for display. You can leave it untitled or create your very own title...the choice is yours.
So, what does the project look like? I'm currently in the process of putting it together but this may give you a bit of an idea. A couple of weeks ago, I received the newest copy of the Pottery Barn catalog. Toward the front of the catalog, they describe their look for fall as "Rustic Luxe". "That's it!" I thought. "That totally describes what the Fall Heirloom project is all about!" Think rustic metals in black, natural galvanized, rust and shabby white, rough burlap and hemp and textured paper. Now think sumptuous fabrics like satin, velvet, tapestry and silk. Put them together and you have the flavor of the next Heirloom project.
How about a couple of teasers to give you an idea of what to expect?
It's going to be a fun book with some new techniques and some goodies that you won't find in your LSS. Of course, an Heirloom event/workshop means that your kit will come with some fabulous packaging and will be creatively presented in a unique and different container. There's always a surprise or two waiting for you, great gourmet food all day long and some of the nicest and most creative artists that you will have fun getting to know.
Right now, there are just a few remaining seats at this event/workshop. If you have wanted to attend in the past but haven't been able to come, this is a fabulous opportunity to join the fun in the Phoenix area. I would be delighted to pass along hotel info and offer suggestions for shopping, junking, etc.
The Fall Heirloom Event/Workshop is available for $327, and your seat will be secured with a deposit of $165. On August 20th, I'll send out a PayPal request for the remaining balance. While the cost of the workshop is not refundable, if you would need to cancel, the kit with all of the special packaging and event goodies would be shipped to you at no extra charge.
To secure your seat at this special event/workshop, just click on the "Buy Now" button below.
Treat yourself to a special day...and an opportunity to create an amazing project...in your own words!
Looking forward to spending the day with you on October 20th!
From my studio to yours,
